Drug Delivery Excellence™
Atacama Labs Oy is a privately owned specialty pharmaceutical company that offer
- galenic development from test granulations to full galenic development, and
- contract manufacturing services from tablets to fully packaged products.
Atacama Labs Oy has developed an innovative oral drug delivery technology (called ‘pneumatic dry granulation' or ‘PDG Technology™'). The technology is aimed to replace existing solid dosage form development and manufacturing methods (like wet granulation or standard roller compaction) and will help both NCE galenic developers and life cycle managers to overcome development or differentiation issues.
Based on this proprietary drug delivery technology Atacama develops new galenic forms from existing pharmaceutical APIs, excipients, flavours or nutraceuticals. The Company also utilizes the technology for formulating proprietary and patent protected products across multiple therapeutical areas.
The new PDG technology™ provides a range of crucial advantages both from a commercial and technological point of view:
- Fast disintegrating tablets - oral dissolving forms (ODT)
- Timed release tablets
- Smaller tablets via higher drug loading (70-95%) increasing patient compliance by easier swallowing and/or reduced dosing frequency
- Ideal for fix-combinations (OTC or Rx)
- Marketing exclusivity through technology patents
Development / Production advantages
- Treatment of most any kind of API (incl. moisture sensitive, heat labile) with dry granulation (suitable also for antibiotics or toxic APIs like oncological drugs)
- Very fast development of new galenic formulations
- Simple, cost effective and very reliable production system (less steps, closed loop, high input / output ratio, continous production)
- High compressibility and excellent flowability of granules
- Works with standard excipients
- No known scale-up problems from lab environment
- Granules can also be used for capsule fillings
Atacama Labs has a solid technological and intellectual property foundation for growth. PDG Technology™ is protected by 19 patent applications and 4 registered trademarks.
The Company is located in Helsinki, Finland.
